Yesterday morning, before there was an election in the offing, I was delighted to host a busy cross party session on my campaign to ban disposable vape sponsorship in sports as part of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill. Thanks to everyone who participated, especially Asthma and Lung UK.
During his speech outside No10 yesterday, Rishi Sunak said this Bill was his legacy. He could have dealt with it by bringing it to the "wash-up" sessions in the Commons today and tomorrow ehen last pieces of legislation are pushed through. He chose not to do that, so it is obviously a legacy of utter failure rather than anything more positive.
I did check today at Business Questions, if there was a plan to add this to the wash up programme, but no. No Tobacco and Vapes Bill. No ban on vape advertising in sports. What a crying shame the chance to prevent future harms was abandoned like that.
