So many constituents have been in touch with me to express their deep concern about racism and urge action, following the murder of George Floyd and the terrible scenes in America. The images being flashed onto our screens are shocking.
Following my Early Day Motion earlier this week, I am glad to join 166 MP colleagues from parties across the House of Commons in signing this letter, organised by Dawn Butler MP, urging the UK Government to cease sales of rubber bullets and tear gas to the USA. It is surely our responsibility to do so.

However, that is not all we must do. We also need to accept that racism is not solely an American issue. It exists in all countries, including Scotland. This light being shone on the issue now is an opportunity to confront that, and have hard conversations and make hard discussions. We will all benefit from doing that.
